HONOR HEALTH HEROES

Dear Friends!
At the forefront of the war against coronavirus stand those medical health workers who walk into battle daily, face the enemy directly and selflessly fight to save the lives of millions!
We are deeply grateful to them all regardless of ethnicity but, here we express special gratitude to health professions members with whom we identify and feel special kinship; Russian and Russian-speaking Americans who share heroic struggle and sacrifice with marvelous diverse colleagues defending the rest of us. They all fill us with pride.
To those who may consider this unfair or egoistic we offer some thoughts:
In order to feel part of the larger COMMUNITY, to feel involved in the common cause, as happens now during trying times; yet not only in tragedy, but also in times of good cheer, we need to value our heroes, appreciate we are all part of the big picture and we merit our place with companions seeking common good.
Many will acknowledge that in our prior lives awards and distinctions were given. But they were bestowed by someone OVER us who determined from their high perch who was worthy of reward, who qualified for hero. In a more democratic society, people can be found worthy by their peers and in so doing sense a touch of pride with the hero who has earned it. We single out the heroes because they represent values we share, goals to which we aspire, but are not always able to s achieve, while they were able to do so for us.
“Feeling pride in the actions of my own people does not diminish pride in my fellow Americans, it only makes it deeper, shared and even more grateful.”
Doctors and other health care workers have resorted to sleeping in their cars so as not to infect their loved ones, some send their children to friends’ or families so as not to infect them. All of them face danger daily. They are all heroes. Recently we wrote on FB, asking friends to send us names of relatives, friends, acquaintances, who today are on the front lines fighting for our lives. In half a day we got 20 names. They keep coming.
You will find names we have received on our “Honor Roll” of Heroes in the war against the Corona Virus here.
