Russian New Year’s Yolka Party for Kids” Celebrating the Russian New Years Traditions at the General Consulate of the Russian Federation

RACH-C is happy to announce another great success of Yolka 2012 at the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in New York City. The Golden Rooster Ensemble (Director Irina Zagornova) with The Brighton Ballet (Director Irina Roisen), gave a wondrous performance of the Russian folk tale “Frosty” (Morozko). Our deepest appreciation and gratitude to all our supporters, volunteers and friends, for without your help we would not have had such a great event!

With the support of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation, RACH-C presented its 7th annual “YOLKA” (the Russian Children’s New Year’s Party) attended by children of Russian families as well as Russian children adopted into American families.

Davis Hall of International House, Columbia University is a dramatic venue bursting with beauty and tradition. It was also bursting with joy and laughter as 300 plus children and parents filled the room with waves of merriment at the RACH-C YOLKA Celebration hosted for the 8th year with the Consulate General of the Russian Federation.

In Russia, the YOLKA (the Christmas tree) is associated with the New year, with Ded Moroz (a Russian Santa Claus) candies, gifts, songs, tales, and the joyful happiness that only children can fully feel. As adults, those happy memories inspire them to share the tradition with their own children and grandchildren no matter where they live, and the delightful cycle repeats, generation after generation.

On December 17, 2016 the doors to the Russian Consulate General in New York were opened to embrace children, their parents and grandparents at the traditional RACH-C Children’s Christmas Tree celebration presented for the 11th year at the Russian Consulate General in NYC.

Our YOLKA celebrations at the Consulate General of the Russian Federation have become very popular over the last 12 years, and attendance is limited.

Organized by the Russian American Cultural Heritage Center, Inc. (RACH-C), celebrating its 15th year of service, the event featured the “Golden Rooster” Ensemble, directed by Irina Zagornova on its 25th anniversary.
Four generations of Golden Rooster kids performers joined on stage to mark these anniversaries with a performance of the dazzling musical “Morozko”.

RACH-C has produced Yolka Events for 16 years at venues like the Embassy of the Russian Federation in DC, the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in NY, International House at Columbia University, and Pushkin Hall in NYC. This year, however, we will not produce any Yolka events. This includes at the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in NY. Please contact them directly to learn their plans for this year.
